The Battle of Jersey - 6th January 1781

          

The above button is 20mm in diameter, flat silver plate, found in St. Clement, Jersey.

Maker:  J. Nutting engraved in 18thC as I. Nutting (I=Joseph)

Joseph Nutting of King Street, Covent Garden, was recorded in a Court Judgement from the Old Bailey in 1779

 

              

83rd  -   diameter 20cm - Gilt, flat.

Maker's mark on the back: S. Firmin - Strand, 1771-1780.  Note, the button is bent and is in fact a flat button, not domed.

The 83rd Division served in Jersey at the Battle in 1781 and did not again return to the island in service.
